The farm is in full growth. Below is a large selection of pictures from all across the farm. Peas The peas are looking good.  You can see from the photos that they need some training to work their way up the trellis.  But I’m confident they are good learners. Tomatoes The tomatoes are coming up [...]

I was lucky enough to join the Chicago Spring Fling 2009 here in Chicago for a tour of Rick Bayless’s Urban Farm where over $20,000 of produce is produced for his two restaurants, Frontera Grill and Topolobampo. A full post on the tour and highlights will take a day to put together, but I wanted [...]

Flowers on the Farm

by Farmer Jay on April 24, 2009

This is not my garden, but I wish it was.  It’s another great Friday in Chicago — too good to be inside. Look for more great pictures and descriptions of farm activities throughout the weekend.  Until then, enjoy the outdoors.  The internet will wait for you.

In the Ground: Carrots

by Farmer Jay on April 20, 2009

in Farming

It was a big weekend for the farm — we’re about 10 days away from the last frost of the season.  The long time Chicago native would recognize that a 70 degree weekend does not mean we won’t have one more snow ahead of us (I hear Tuesday). In the ground on Friday went Carrots.  [...]

Friday was an excellent day to be in the dirt. I’ll post on my plantings throughout the weekend. Until then, enjoy an April spring day on the farm.
